Where do Kos Intercity bus go?

KTEL bus connect main Kos cities with each other, as well as the airport. They offer a cheap way to travel around the island, without having to rent a car. Here’s the list of main destinations :

  • Kos city (main hub located at Kleopatras Street, in Kos center)
  • Kos airport (up to 10 bus a day from and to Mastichari & Kos)
  • Kefalos (up to 6 bus in each direction)
  • Kardamena (up to 8 bus in each direction)
  • Mastichari (up to 10 bus in each direction)
  • Zipari (up to 12 bus in each direction)
  • Marmari (up to 12 bus in each direction)
  • Tigaki (up to 12 bus in each direction)
  • Pili (up to 3 bus in each direction)

How to travel with KTEL bus in Kos?

While you’ll find KTEL (ΚΤΕΛ) organisations all around Greece, each usually operating locally in a set region with some operating longer routes, each has its own organisation (different websites, possibility to book or not, comfort, frequency…). That’s why It’s important to familiarise itself with the local specificities.

How to buy KTEL Kos bus tickets?

KTEL KOS bus tickets cannot be bought ahead or at an office. Therefore, tickets are always bought directly onboard the bus, by cash only. As no card payments are possible, plan to have enough cash with you, ideally withdrawn from a major bank ATM (avoiding you a last minute rush to “touristic” ATMs charging expensive fees, such as Euronet).

Where to board KTEL Kos bus?

Each city has at least one KTEL Bus stop, materialised by a bus shed or a pole, a blue sign “ΚΤΕΛ ΚΩΣ Α.Ε” and an updated timetable (if you’re lucky). Remember to wave at the bus, clearly indicating your desire to take it (otherwise it may not stop).

Some areas do not have clearly identified bus stop, this is not a problem. As long as there’s a big enough space for them to stop safely, KTEL Bus drivers will likely agree to drop you off there or pick you up (clearly confirm this when boarding/clearly wave at a coming bus).

What is it like to travel with Kos intercity bus?

Almost entirely composed of coaches, the KTEL Bus in couch feature safety belts and AC (some bus might not be equipped). No toilets are available. No refreshments/snacks.
